The standard definition is “Not Safe for Work,” but Discord’s acronym stands for “Not Suitable for Wumpus.” While the acronym NSFW stands for the same stuff on Discord as it does on other sites and servers across the internet – adult and sexually suggestive and explicit content, Discord’s acronym is made up of different words. Have in mind that when you set your channel to NSFW status, your channel name will look something like this – “nsfw-yourchannelname.” Discord devised this solution in a bid to make a compromise between keeping adult users interested in sharing and posting NSFW content onboard and protecting those under the age of 18. When you do this, every user that tries to access your channel will be prompted by Discord to confirm they’re 18 years or older. So if you’d like to chat about adult themes and post such pictures and videos on your channel, according to the Guidelines, you are required to put a NSFW label on your account. Others, depending on the severity of their offense, might get punished with anything from a warning to account deletion. Only channels designated NSFW can post adult content without getting in trouble with Discord. While this type of content is allowed on the platform, it is not allowed everywhere. Discord and NSFW Contentĭiscord has an interesting relationship with NSFW content. Let’s take a closer look at Discord’s relationship with the NSFW acronym. Also, it is used to denote content that contains graphic displays of violence, blood, gore, strong language, and other stuff people might find inappropriate or offensive. Off of that final note I hope in the future that this rule would get added into the tos for discord for everyone's safety I don't think it's right for discord servers to ask for that sensitive information, And if you're in these type of serves that enforce it I would just recommend to leave the server. The infamous NSFW tag exists to warn minors and sensitive users that there are adult-themed images and videos ahead. These servers are just normal people who do not own a business or an employee or a security guard, And should not have the right, Because your information will never be safe at all. I have a few statements to backup my reasonings on why it should be against discord tos, even though it's not.ġ) You are at risk of being impersonated, Meaning even though you hid the information with a marker or highlighter on your phone or PC once it's sent you're taking a big risk and anyone can un-reveal it and expose it to others.Ģ) Discord servers should not have the right to ask for this information, Their are other ways and means to verify yourself without having to give sensitive information out to public, nsfw servers or regular discord servers. Reason being is because we are talking about normal discord servers, Not a bar or stuff like that, These are normal discord servers that want this information to prove you are over 18 or you could get banned. No discord server should have the right to ask for this information. I made this post because I believe that 18+ discord servers/nsfw servers or discord servers in general that ask for your government ID/DL for verification should be against ToS of discord even though it's not,
